Elies van Sliedregt (1971) is a professor of criminal law at VU University Amsterdam and co-director of the Amsterdam Centre on the Interdisciplinary Research on International Crimes (ACIC).

In her research she focuses on principles of criminal law from a comparative law perspective. In 2006, Van Sliedregt won the Modderman Prize, the highest scientific distinction in the field of criminal law. In 2008 she was awarded the J.C. Ruigrok Prize for her book (and PhD thesis) ‘The Criminal Responsibility of Individuals for Violations of International Humanitarian Law’. From 2004 to 2008, through a ‘Veni-grant’ provided by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Resaerch (NWO), Van Sliedregt conducted research into the presumption of innocence and terrorism legislation. In 2009, she received the NWO ‘Vidi-grant’ for research into the harmonization of the concept of criminal liability in international criminal law.
